Spacers
Plastic crosses
Tile crosses are special plastic accessories that are used to create even joints of a fixed thickness when laying ceramic tiles. They differ in thickness, color, but they all perform the same function: they fix the thickness of the joint between the tiles.
Various spacers for tiles with a thickness of 1-10 mm are available today:
- standard models, used for cladding;
- T-shaped inserts, which are recommended for facing tiles with an offset;
- wedges, they are used to work with tiles of non-standard sizes;
- SVP, they create uniform seams of the same thickness and equalize the errors of the base.
Thin models of crosses make more accurate seams, so for walls it is better to select products up to 2 mm thick, for flooring - up to 4 mm. If the tiles have different sizes and thicknesses, then you should use large crosses. The higher the quality of the tile, the thinner the seam can be made. If the slab is not of very high quality, then due to the thickness of the jointing, all errors can be corrected. They are easily removed, leaving virtually no marks on the seams.
How to choose the right tile inserts?
Crosses are installed in the process of laying the tiles. Before the tile adhesive sets, you can adjust the thickness of the seams with crosses. To make the seams as even as possible, experts advise taking 4 crosses for each tile.
Before you buy crosses for tiles, there are a number of factors to consider:
- dimensions of seams;
- material of manufacture;
- number of parties;
- level of rigidity;
- surface quality of crosses;
- brand manufacturer.
In order not to overpay for products from leading European manufacturers, you can purchase TM Plitkom tiles for laying tiles. They are of high quality at an affordable price.
Tile crosses are sold separately or as part of a SVP. With them, a uniform paving height and a fixed joint width are guaranteed. Their rational use can also significantly increase the efficiency of facing work.
Features of using crosses
The number and thickness of the crosses will depend on the type of tile and the complexity of the facing work. For example, during the installation of wall tiles, 2 crosses are inserted into each horizontal tile seam. When laying floor tiles, 2 crosses are placed on each edge of the tile, if the floor covering has an elongated shape, then the number of crosses can be increased to 4. On average, the consumption of plastic crosses is 30-80 pieces per 1 sq. M. This will help you calculate in advance the approximate costs of purchasing finishing materials.
